Children from some of the 1st Classes at the school were chosen to represent the school on the show. This group, like their peers, learn and use sign language daily. They use music as a fun and interactive way to express their interest in the language.

ISL is the first language of many of their Deaf pupils. Therefore, it is vital that everyone in St Columba's has the fundamentals of the language to ensure equal access and communication. During International Week of Deaf People, they celebrated the Deaf Community through song. This amazing day was a highlight for all involved as they continue to highlight and promote ISL at their school throughout the year.

The song Golden was chosen for its powerful message of hope and resilience. The boys and girls had less than a week to prepare and they did themselves proud! They wanted to say a bit thanks to all the people in RTÉ Cork - everyone loved their performance!

Messages of support and awe have flooded in following their performance. Not all of the 1st Class pupils were able to attend the RTÉ studio, however these talented kids have already performed for their younger schoolmates and will have the honour of highlighting ISL at an assembly for the senior classes next week.

The Douglas school, situated on a 5-acre campus including natural woodland, native bog garden, a geodome and private playground, are champions of Irish Sign Language (ISL). The school boasts 16 mainstream classes and 6 Deaf classes. Inclusion is supported by introducing ISL to all pupils, hearing and Deaf, from the moment they begin school.

The children were accompanied by teachers Jennifer O'Leary and Karen Cinnamond, as well as SNAs Avril Gunn and Sam Harrington.
