Podcast: Ecolution is pedal powering into Bike Week 2025

Bike Week 2025 runs (or should that be cycles?!) until Sunday, 18 May. It's the nationwide event that encourages people of all ages to get pedalling. Ecolution is here to tell you all about it and to say there's never been a better time to get on a bike!

Listen to the show now on RTÉ, Apple or Spotify and watch our Vodcast on RTÉ Kids YouTube.

We never miss an opportunity to promote active travel and talk to young people about their love of cycling. So the Ecolution team wound our way to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, St Colmcille's Senior National School in Knocklyon to be exact, to meet some of their students at the launch and ask why cycling means so much to them.

As part of Bike Week, the National Transport Authority (NTA) have over 600 events scheduled nationwide. From family-friendly activities to heritage cycles, maintenance workshops, and learn-to-cycle events, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

All 31 local authority areas are participating in Bike Week, with events organised in collaboration with local sports partnerships.

Here are some highlights:

  • Pedal Power Cyle Parade taking place across the city of Dublin on Sunday, 11 May with participants encouraged to dress up in this year’s theme of Bee’s and flowers.
  • The Cork City Street Art Tour will take place on Saturday, 10 May and promise a guided tour of some of the city’s most iconic works, and a few hidden gems along the way.
  • Family Carlingford Greenway cycle event’ taking place on the 18 May.
