More about Monaghan RFC
Monaghan Rugby Club was founded in 1976 and is the only rugby club in County Monaghan. At the beginning, it played its games at various locations around the town, but in 1985, it relocated to its present clubhouse and grounds at Rafeenan just outside Monaghan Town.
And they have been busy building! They've four dressing rooms, two pitches and two training areas. The mini training takes place there.
The club has Mens and Womens Senior teams and the Men's 1st team are the current holders of the Gordon West Cup and were promoted last year, having won Championship 3. #winning
But, of course we want to hear about the young players too! Monaghan has three youth teams for boys and girls (Under 14, 16, 18) and a mini section (from age 7 -12). The youth teams have won Ulster Leagues and Cups at all age groups down through the years.
And the club have news! They want all boys and girls to give the sport a go, and that's why they are forming inclusive rugby teams. Give the club a shout to find out more.
One of Ireland's best ever finishers is a club legend. Tommy Bowe, the former Ulster, Irish and Lions player came through the youth system and his dad Paul is the current President.
And the women are representing too! In the Ulster Senior Provincial side that recently defeated Connaugh Kelly McCormill and Aisling O'Connell lined out for the province. They both learned the game at Monaghan.
Massive thanks to everyone at Monaghan RFC, Beibhinn, Jordan and the IRFU for helping to make this first show a brilliant one.
It's the first leg of an 8-week tour where we talk all things Rugby World Cup. Next week we head to a rugby-mad school in Dublin. See you soon St Columba's!
