Someone Like Me: Let's talk about Traveller life

Someone Like Me is a radio show and podcast featuring children and young people from Ireland, who have something unique they want to share with the World.

This eight-part series sees Kate Brennan Harding joined every week by a different young person who will meet and interview a grown-up that is a bit like them.

This series' intention is to celebrate differences, and to empower young people who otherwise might feel isolated because of their differences.

Jessie hosts the show this week!

The star of this weeks show is Jessie McCarthy Adair from Macroom in Co Cork. Jessie is in second class in school and she loves kickboxing, picnics, and helping her Daddy prepare their horses for the fair. Jessie is a Traveller and at 8 years of age has already been in a movie called Float Like A Butterfly!

Jessie would like to be an Olympian on the Irish team when she is older. She says her super power is being kind to others.

Anne Marie works with Tipperary Rural Traveller Project.

Jessie will be meeting Anne Marie Quilligan who is from Tipperary and is a social care worker with Tipperary Rural Traveller Project. Anne Marie grew up loving her Grandads horses and enjoyed acting and theatre.

Their conversation meanders and we learn about Faeries, Lemonade Wells and preparing the horses for the fair.

Thanks to West Cork Traveller Centre, Tipperary Rural Traveller Project, Toma McCullim and Rosemarie Maughan for all their guidance.
