Someone Like Me is a radio show and podcast featuring children and young people from Ireland, who have something unique they want to share with the World.
This eight part series sees Kate Brennan Harding joined every week by a different young person who will meet and interview a grown-up that is a bit like them.
This series' intention is to celebrate differences, and to empower young people who otherwise might feel isolated because of their differences.
This week our star is Kylie Ampofo who is 12 years old and goes to the Claddagh National School in Galway. Kylie loves Netball, Basketball, reading, and learning languages!
Kylie moved to Ireland with her family when she was 10 from South Africa. Kylie lives in Direct Provision with her family. Direct Provision is a system where people who are seeking refuge in Ireland are placed until they are granted asylum to stay in Ireland.
Often Direct Provision centres don't have much space, and so Kylie shares one room with her family.
In this episode Kylie meets Tab Ruigu who is an actor and all around amazing person. Tab experienced living in Direct Provision when she moved to Ireland from Kenya. Tab shares her experiences and together they talk about life, school and all the possibilities that are ahead of Kylie.
