Cúpla Focal: Lesson Two, Daily Life.

Cupla Focal_Cupla Focal_CRM_Heading_16x9-33 DAily life

Hello, a chara,

Fáilte ar ais! Conas atá tú? Tá súil againn go bhfuil tú go maith (we hope you are well). By now we hope you've started adding some Gaeilge into your everyday greetings and conversations. Perhaps you swapped 'thanks’ for ‘go raibh maith agat’ and replaced your goodbyes with 'slán'! Hopefully you also had the opportunity this past week to have a little chat as Gaeilge with a friend or a colleague.

Now that we have revised the basics, this week we’re ready to take ár gcuid Gaeilge (our Irish) out on the town!

Let’s prepare some useful phrases to help you complete some everyday tasks sa bhaile mór!

Dúshlán na seachtaine

Before we introduce this week’s challenge, let’s remember to stick to our new habits from last week. Keep greeting do chairde, and even strangers as Gaeilge. You’ll be surprised at how many people are happy to join you with their cúpla focal.

For this week’s dúshlan, it’s time to spend a day in town speaking as Gaeilge. Look out for signs as Gaeilge in local businesses and get cracking! Taking a friend along with you might make this challenge a little less daunting.

1 Tell someone where you’re off to! Cá bhfuil tú ag dul?

2 Lorg cabhair/Ask for assistance as Gaeilge, perhaps in a shop or even for directions!

3 Ordaigh rud éigin (order something) as Gaeilge - caife, ceapaire nó pionta fiú!

4 Lorg an bille nó an praghas (the price), and say how you’re going to pay.
