The light and the dark of life in the tradition of song

Labhair Síle Denvir ar Arena ar RTÉ Radio One faoina halbam nua, Anamesis agus faoi thraidisiún na n-amhrán atá ina dlúthchuid di.

Cé nár thuig Denvir gach amhrán agus na scéalta doimhne a bhain leo, deir sí go bhfuil roinnt amhrán aici ó bhí sí ina cailín óg, leithéidí Dhónal Óg ina bhfuil an líne cáiliúil 'bhain tú thiar agus bhain tú thoir díom'.

Síle Denvir is a sean-nós singer and harpist, a founding member of the traditional Irish group Líadan. Her latest album, Anamnesis, is deeply influenced by her upbringing in the west of Ireland Conamara Gaeltacht and is available now.

Síle says the sean nós tradition shows the 'light and the dark' of life and this album reflects that vast spectrum from one of the few remaining famine songs, Johnny Seoige to Seoithín Seó, a lullaby for children.

Denvir talks about the lyrical form of these 9 songs on the album, some of which are hundreds of years old and touch on nature and metaphor, as well as grand romantic gestures. The album is produced by renowned music producer John Reynolds and Síle says Reynolds showed a great respect and grá for the tradition of sean nós.

Is féidir leat éisteacht le Arena ón Luan go hAoine idir 7 agus 8 ar RTÉ Radio One.
