As Ireland has a record presence at the Oscars this week and Paul Mescal impressed us all by speaking cúpla focal at the BAFTAs Ray Cuddihy, Radio One Broadcaster, joins Brendan to talk about Gaeilge and its place in Irish culture.
Ray and Brendan spoke about An Cailín Ciúin's huge success to date and how Paul Mescal made us all lose our collective minds when he spoke to TG4's Caitlín Nic Aoidh on the red carpet at the BAFTAs. Cuddihy describes Paul's efforts at speaking Irish as typically Irish, where he was little bit nervous but gave it a good go anyway.
Ray suggests we all 'give it a go' like Mescal did, try and bring a bit of Irish into your life, without fear or shame at the level you're at.
Molann Ray dóibh siúd atá drogallach an Ghaeilge a labhairt triail a bhaint as an méid atá agat le cara leat le go méadóidh do mhisneach i dtaobh na teanga.

Cuddihy says the trope of 'it's the way it's taught' is a cop out often used in Ireland when it comes to the Irish language. He references the cultural moments which have jolted the country out of its reluctance to embrace Irish, such as An Cailín Ciúin or Beo ar Éigean, RTÉ's podcast and RTÉ Radio One show and Belfast's Kneecap and Kerry's Séamus Barra Ó Súilleabháin.
