This week Aedín Ní Thiarnaigh heads to Ireland’s wild coastline. In this final episode of the series, the presenter sets out to learn more about the folklore and traditional uses of wildflowers in this wave-beaten habitat.
The emphasis is on edible flowers this episode, with tasty wild plants like scurvygrass, sea radish and sea spinach in the spotlight.
To find out about the unique elements affecting coastal wildflowers in their natural habitat, Aedín meets with ecologist Katie O’Dwyer in County Galway.
The presenter also travels to Corca Dhuibhne where she meets with former hurler Diarmuid Lyng, a man passionate about wild food. He teaches her how to use the coastal plants on our doorstep to make a tasty sourdough loaf.
