Chief Executive of World Book Day, Cassie Chadderton said, "Our 25th anniversary is a moment to look ahead to our ambitions for the future, and we are delighted to be partnering with Foras na Gaeilge to bring an Irish language book to children on World Book Day next year. The announcement of the €1.50 books and the authors and illustrators involved is always the exciting first step towards World Book Day in March. This important addition will mean we can do more to encourage all children across Ireland to love reading and books on World Book Day 2022."
Cluasa Capaill ar an Rí, by Bridget Bhreathnach & illustrated by Shona Shirley Macdonald, published by Futa Fata and winner of the 2021 Réics Carló publishing award

Nuair a bheirtear páiste do bhanríon na tíre, tá sí féin agus an rí an-bhuartha; tá cluasa capaill ar an bpáiste. An nglacfaidh muintir na tíre lena mac, Labhraí? An mbeidh sé in ann a rún aisteach a choinneáil ar feadh a shaoil, fiú nuair a bheidh sé féin ina rí ar an tír? Seanscéal é seo faoin misneach a theastaíonn uaireanta chun an fhírinne a insint, is cuma céard a cheapann daoine eile.
When the queen of the country gives birth to a child, she and the king are very worried; the child has horse's ears. Will the people of the country accept her son, Labhraí? Will he be able to keep his strange secret all his life, even when he himself will be king of the country? This is an old story about the confidence that is sometimes needed to tell the truth, no matter what other people think.
