Bilingual Traditional Song Workshop

Traditional singer Rachel Uí Fhaoláin will conduct a song workshop which will involve participants developing song writing and singing skills in the traditional style. Rachel will guide children and young people through the creative skills of writing songs while using existing airs from the tradition. The workshop will be conducted through English and Irish to encourage the use of the cúpla focal.

The children will also learn a new song from Rachel's collection of newly composed songs in the traditional style. This macaronic song is based around a fun traditional rhyme with a folklore theme.  This workshop is aimed at age 8+ and family participation is encouraged.

Rachel Uí Fhaoláin specialises in developing traditional/sean nós song programmes for children and has brought traditional song to children throughout Ireland through her work with Ceol Mo Chroí, Song Circle For Children, Comhaltas Ceoltoíri Éireann, as a Heritage in Schools Expert with Heritage Council Ireland and as a music educator with Wexford Music Generation.
