What does it mean to be Irish? Are there certain cultural markers or core values? We've picked three of our favourite podcasts investigating identity.
The Mise Éire Podcast with Doireann Ní Ghlacáin
Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, presenter, musician and PhD student and most recently host of The Mise Éire podcast describes the series as 'A podcast where we meet deadly people around Ireland and chat about their experience being Irish'. Her guests range from Gerry Adams to Demi Isaac Oviawe, from Joanne Ó Riordan to Roddy Doyle. Ní Ghlacáin's style is easy-going, contemporary and she gets the best out of her guests by listening carefully.

Rebel Matters with Ainle Ó Cairealláin
Belfast born Ó Cairealláin's podcast has been up and running a while, as a side project. Only since his gym, Aclaí, closed because of the current health pandemic has he turned full-time podcaster. One of his most recent podcasts with Diarmuid 'Gizzy' Lyng and Siobhán De Paor is a great example of what he does best, asking big, political and philosophical questions of some fascinating characters going their own way.

Tell Me A Story with Eddie Lenihan
Not so much a 'traditional' podcast, but Eddie Lenihan, known as Ireland's most prolific storyteller delves deep into the Irish folklore tradition and recounts tales which inform of us of our past belief systems, from fairies to fauna.
