In a new music documentary series, An Seisiún, starting at 9pm tonight on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, musicians spend 12 hours overnight, writing 3 songs as Gaeilge. Colm Mac Con Iomaire and Rosa Nutty told Seán Rocks on Arena, RTÉ Radio One of their experience.
The musicians were given no direction except one word as a jumping off point. Rosa describes the word as 'the north star' of the challenge. The deadline of twelve hours seems not to have phased Colm, as he says "I think deadlines are generally useful for getting creatives to create, we knew what we were in for, so there was a sense of a challenge".
Nuair a tháinig sé go cúrsaí ceannaireachta, deir Colm nár airigh sé go raibh 'duine eicínt i gceannas'. He brought a dictaphone with him and as soon as the first notes were played, he pressed record to collect the 'fragments of gold' being created.
"The whole idea of a finite amount of time meant that everybody was very present"
In the first episode of the series, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Come On Live Long (Louise & Dáithí) and rapper, MC Muipéad spend the night in studio, out of their comfort zone, creating truly original tunes.
"It's nice to be thrown into a situation where you're away from your habitual musical context" a dúirt Mac Con Iomaire.
Craoltar An Seisiún ag 9 i.n. oíche Aoine ar RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
