Oscar-winning French actress Marion Cotillard found herself in the eye of a media storm two months ago following the announcement that her Allied co-star Brad Pitt was to split from his wife Angelina Jolie.

Tongue's had started wagging after rumours circulated that their on-screen chemistry was full of sizzle and that she even had an affair with Pitt.

A short time later the actress, who is expecting a second child with her husband Guillame Canet, was forced to deny she played any part in the split, and issued a statement saying "this situation is spiralling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up".

Much had been made of one particular steamy love scene in the war-time spy romance between Pitt and Cotillard, which takes place in the front seat of a car during a sandstorm.

However speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, Cotillard played down the intensity of the much-talked about scene, saying if anything it all a bit "awkward".

"Love scenes are a little awkward - but you do everything to make them as comfortable as you can", she laughed.

"It depends on the director so you can be free to act when you know exactly what to do with your body and that's what happened!

"We just created this choreography and that allows you to find the authenticity of the characters and the emotion of the moment, without thinking 'Oh no! I can't put my hands or leg here'", she added.
