September starts next week – so that means TV is getting back into gear for autumn and there are loads of new and returning shows for your consideration.

As well as established favourites such as The Late Late Show and The X Factor, there are some new titles on the way, including TV3's first foray into early morning weekend programming.

To get the ball rolling, here are TEN shows that are likely to get the most attention.

Saturday: AM TV3 Saturday and Sunday

Ireland AM reporter/presenter Anna Daly is the anchor on both Saturday and Sunday variants of the breakfast show, with Simon Delaney co-hosting on Saturday and Ivan Yates doing the honours the following day.

The emphasis each morning will be as different as the co-hosts, with Saturday's being about chat and the craic, while Sunday will be more news-heavy and serious. Your weekends may never be the same again . . .

X Factor TV3 Saturday

The king of the karaoke competitions is back for yet another run, this time without the services of boyband supremo, Louis Walsh. Host Dermot O'Leary has also departed for greener pastures.

This time around Simon Cowell had made several changes to see if the flagging show can keep up with its great BBC One rival, Strictly Come Dancing. New judges are BBC DJ Nick Grimshaw and singer Rita Ora.

The Trials of Jimmy Rose UTV Ireland Sunday

There's a nod to their film Sexy Beast as Ray Winstone and Amanda Redman reunite to play an ex-con and his missus, back living together after he's spent 12 years in prison.

This three-part drama sees Winstone put in a vulnerable performance as his characters struggles to come to terms with the modern world, as well as his wife's loss of love for him and their daughter's descent into heroin addiction.

50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy Sky1 Tuesday

Thrill-seeker Baz Ashwamy is back with his even more adventurous mother Nancy for another round of global derring-do. This time around they'll be flying helicopters, driving monster trucks, riding husky dog sleds, not to mention Nancy taking to the decks as a DJ in Mexico.

In the first episode, the pair head to the Philippines, where Nancy and Baz go behind bars in a maximum-security prison to perform a dance with 700 murderers, bank robbers and drug dealers in the yard.

Red Rock TV3 Wednesday

A big hit on its launch earlier this year, TV3's latest venture into the world of soap/drama has also been critically acclaimed across the boards.

Boasting a great cast and intriguing plotlines, the cop show returns with fans still wondering what's happened since Adrijan's hit-and-run cliffhanger. Meanwhile, the plot thickens around the fire in Ollie Coyne's house.

Cradle to Grave BBC 2 Thursday

One of several new shows that are set in the 1970s, this one focuses on the family of Danny Baker, the former NME writer who went on to have an impressive broadcasting and writing career.

The wonderful Peter Kay stars as Baker's eccentric dad Fred in this adaptation of Danny's autobiography Going to Sea in a Sieve and the result is what's promising to be a cheerful and charming eight-part comedy.

Garda Down Under RTÉ One Wednesday

Here's a six-parter look-see at Irish Gardaí who decide to quit their jobs in Ireland and head off to Western Australia to see how life – and the cap – fits as police officers in Australia.

Starting out as 'transitional officers', the new recruits soon find out that life can be very different Down Under and, in the first episode, one recruit is in the remote Kununurra region and another is with the Perth Police Academy.

A Week to My Wedding RTÉ One Thursday

Some people will do anything to get on TV and here's the proof as a series of Irish couples open their doors wide as the big wedding day beckons.

First up are Maeve from Mayo and Brendan from Tipperary. They live in London but want to return to Ireland for their marriage. Easy-peasy? With just days to go the to-do list is impressively long.

The Late Late Show RTÉ One Friday

The second longest-running chat show in television history returns, with Ryan Tubridy once again in the hot seat for Ireland's number one TV show.

As usual, there will be tweaks and minor changes – but the basic formula remains the same. Expect the best chat with a wide mix of people across a variety of topics, from entertainment to human interest and all points in between.

Here's Ed Sheeran performing on The Late Late Show last year:

The Fixer FOX Friday

The only notable US import over the coming days is this mini-series starring former Grey's Anatomy hunk Eric Dane.

Suspicious of the official answers to an oil rig disaster, Ellie Molaro (Kathleen Robertson from Boss and Murder in the First), investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board, spearheads a private investigation with a secret tipster named Carter (Dane).

Carter claims that a conspiracy of 'Fixers' are behind the disaster, caused to manipulate the stock market and reap billions for a select few. Same as it ever was.
