Strictly Come Dancing

Denise lost her top spot on the leaderboard this week!
Denise lost her top spot on the leaderboard this week!

With just seven couples left and three weeks to go until the final, the remaining Strictly Come Dancing contestants brought out all the stops this week (Ahem Louis & Flavia).

First up Kimberley & Pasha danced the Jive to Land of 1000 Dances by Wilson Pickett. The timing was brilliant throughout the performance and Nimbo Kimbo showcased some impressive foot movement. There were one or two tricky moments where the odd spin was slightly off, but Kimberley’s ability to stay in character for the whole routine made up for the flaws.

The Jive is a difficult dance to perfect, but Kimberley made it look effortless. The routine was packed with energy and had the speed and efficiency required for a perfect Jive. The couple were awarded 34 marks which brought them to second position on the leaderboard.

Dani & Vincent performed a dreamy Viennese Waltz to That’s Amore by Dean Martin. It was another consistent performance and pleasant to watch. Dani sported a beautiful floaty dress which added to the romantic theme. Bruno thought the performance was enchanting, while Craig liked the kicks and turns. I agreed with Darcey when she said that she liked Dani’s lower body, but her upper body needs more curve. It was a charming performance. A well deserved 34 marks. Is it possible for this pair to have a bad week?

Michael & Natalie spiced things up with a sexy Samba to Tequila by The Champs. Surprisingly, Michael’s hip movements could have been worse. I really enjoyed the turn sequence at the end. Craig said “it wasn’t completely dreadful but it still looks pretty awkward.” Darcey praised Michael for his “outstanding improvement,” while Bruno cleverly coined the term the “one hip wonder.” The couple scored a dismal 24 marks. I hope Michael makes it to the semis.

Nicky & Karen danced an Argentine Tango to Adele’s Skyfall. It was a passionate and intense performance and the chemistry between the pair was believable. Darcey said she would have liked Nicky to be more lustful, while Len praised the lifts before saying the whole thing was too ballroom for his liking. It was a powerful performance and well worth the 30 marks awarded by the panel.

Lisa & Robin performed a Quickstep to Bring Me Sunshine by Jive Aces. The footwork was untidy and Lisa still has “lazy” legs. That said, Lisa’s blindingly yellow dress and bubbly personality made this a fun-filled and worthwhile performance. Craig thought Lisa’s hand needs more shaping and it was a bit messy in places, while Darcey thought it was fast and light. A great score of 31!

Denise & James danced a Salsa to Rhythm of the Night by Valeria. The couple looked a bit confused in parts like they didn’t know what they were supposed to be doing. Surprisingly, James looked more nervous than his contestant partner, which resulted in some awkward shimmying towards the end of the routine. It wasn’t Denise’s best performance to date but her spins and big lifts were still really impressive. Craig thought Denise’s hips were a bit spiky, while Darcey loved the speed. However, I don’t think it was worthy of 32 marks considering the mishaps and blunders in the routine.

The best was saved until last as Louis & Flavia closed the show with the best score of the night (37 marks). The couple danced a Charlseton to Dr Wanna Do by Caro Emerald. There were some good tricks and a nice bit of comedy to their performance. Louis’ personality finally shined through which added some va-va-voom to the routine. I agreed with Bruno when he said that the performance had “the making of a true contender.” Here here! Louis to win!

Louis & Flavia topped the leaderboard with a score of 37

As much as I admire his dedication and perseverance, I have a feeling that not- so- magic Mike will be heading home tonight!

With just a few hours to go until the results, who will you be voting for?
