With repeats bombarding the small screen and soapland becoming even more preposterous than usual, I'm finding it difficult to find something worth watching on the box during the summer months – that was until I rediscoverd How I Met Your Mother.
Indeed, there is the odd repeat thrown in the E4 mix every so often with HIMYM. But just like the magic and endearing qualities bestowed in Friends, I find it extremely hard not to get sucked in by Marshall and Co. Last night, I managed to stumble upon a gem of an episode where Lilypad gives birth to Marvin ‘wait for it’ Eriksen.
I particularly enjoyed the storyline with Barney and Marshall in Atlantic City as they desperately tried to make it back in time for Lily’s birth. The events that unfolded around their lads relaxing weekend were humorous to watch. While Barney sported his hideous duck tie, a heavily intoxicated Marshall crawled up two steps only to find the ATM talking to him.
However, the highlight had to be the trip down memory lane that Robin and Ted took to distract Lily for her contractions. Better yet, Ted’s ‘great idea’ to send around a video email birth notification led to a hilarious opportunity for Lily’s dad to enter the episode. Her father has a tendency to hype people up and always prepare for the worst when people are sick, which made his arrival at the hospital all the more entertaining.
Robin was definitely the star of this episode. From her comical story about the Cuban sandwich incident to her belief that she had hooked up with Neil Young, I found it hard to contain my laughter.
Barney’s plan and almost successful attempt to steal a motorcycle from the casino also provided a good few laughs, but it was the banter he has with the OAP’s on the bus that outshined his drunken antics. I also adored the storyline about Marshall and the ‘cursed pants’ that let him to a hidden Chinese laundrette.
From the slippery banana peel test to the Breakfast Club Halloween themed outfits that were overly co-ordinated, this episode quickly sailed into my top three funniest HIMYM moments.
I am still very intrigued to find out what is behind that secret door!
