After complimenting Mr RTÉ Scheduler for his excellent work last Thursday night, I have to say he is right off my Christmas list again for putting Lost back to 9.55pm. What’s wrong with a nice 9pm start when I still have my wits about me?
I felt a little disappointed after last night’s show to be honest. It was a little low-key and felt like a filler episode which is a bit of a worry just three shows in but hopefully the boys will get back on track next week. Perhaps they were just settling the audience down after the excitement of the first two shows before further madness ensues.
So Kate has never been my favourite character (definitely team Juliet all the way here) and it was all about her last night which might explain my indifference. She just loves running that gal and to be fair in LA she really didn’t have a choice. Yet again she chose to run on the island as well leaving Jack and their goodbye seems to knock on the head any chance of a romantic reunion. Jack has morphed back into hero mode (which should have increased his appeal but hasn’t) and he seems totally focussed on atoning for his past decisions which have caused numerous deaths and saving whoever is left. Good luck with that Jack.
But why did Kate follow Sawyer? He certainly wasn’t encouraging her. She claims it was to find Claire but watching Sawyer while he recovered the ring from his home you can’t help but suspect another motive. When Sawyer revealed the dept of his feelings for Juliet and his plans, Kate’s tears, I’m guessing, were for herself and not Sawyer. In any case Teams Skate and Jate can throw away your t-shirts now as Lindelof and Cuse seem to be saying no more love triangles or rectangles! Let’s get down to the real business!
Speaking of Claire it was in LA that Kate’s role as guardian angel was reconfirmed and she seems destined to be directly entangled in Aaron’s life once again. How strange to see Ethan Goodspeed at Claire’s bedside. Her choice of a baby name seemed to spark recognition in Kate as did her glance in Jack’s direction at the airport during her messy getaway. We are seeing signs of déjà vu in LA but none on the island so how does that work?
Finally Jack had his Leia moment – the force is strong in your family, your father, you, your sister… I suspect this revelation will see Jack and his remaining lieutenants exiting the temple next week in search of her. Does Claire’s Rousseau-like reappearance on the island and Sayid’s infection mean we have lost two of the good guys to the dark side? Or have our new friends in the temple got it wrong? We really still don’t know the good guys from the bad so it is still all to play for.
Just a brief word about Jin who while always there often goes below the radar. Last night he quietly initiated his own mission to find Sun. No big Kate-like gestures here - just action. He rarely speaks but great to see him silence Kate with one question “who do you care about?” The two goons who accompanied Kate and Jin on their mission to find Sawyer seemed lost on Lost. It looked like two extras from One Tree Hill went astray on their way to the basketball court. As you can see I am under-whelmed with these other Others, apart from Dogen who shook off his dislike of the English language last night to engage with Jack.
Next week I am hoping we catch up with Benny and the boys.
