Mairéad witnesses McCabe's jealousy over her closeness with Maxine and suspects she has set her up in Tuesday's Fair City on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player.
McCabe is out for revenge after Mairéad's drunken kiss with McCabe's ex-lover Maxine and has set Mairéad up on a fraud charge.
The drama begins on Tuesday as Maxine asks Mairéad: "Hey, did you ever find out who sent that creepy text?"
"'Does your husband know?'" Mairéad replies as she refers to the text. "No. Anyway, he does know, so who cares?"
"Eh, Damien cares," says Maxine.
Later, Mairéad witnesses an exchange between Maxine and McCabe as Maxine leaves The Station and suspects the detective inspector is behind all the trouble.
"Maybe you just have a thing for married women," McCabe says to Maxine.
"Why don't you shove it where I never want to see it?" Maxine retorts.
