A Social Sciences Graduate at the University of Ottawa, Vanessa Foran wants to work in international development after obtaining her Master's Degree. "I have volunteered locally as well as internationally from my time helping to build a school in Tanzania when I was in high school, to being Vice President of Internal Affairs for the University of Ottawa's International Development Conference," she says.

Away from her studies, she has worked in heritage and tourism in Ottawa and as a tour guide at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France, where she was able to teach visitors about Canada's involvement in WWI. She has French roots on her mother's side of the family and is visiting Ireland for the first time to take part in the Rose of Tralee.

"My Irish roots are on my father's side of the family as my great-great-grandfather, John Foran Jr, emigrated from Castlegregory, Co Kerry to Canada as a baby in 1840 to Huron County, Ontario."
