Katie Hanlon-Wadman decided to pursue a career in engineering after taking part in the Women in Science and Engineering event in Newfoundland. An advocate of lifelong learning, she tutors high school students in her spare time and is a lover of outdoor adventure.
Katie's Irish heritage comes from her father's side of the family. Her three times great grandfather Timothy O'Connor was born in Kilkenny and settled in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland in the late 1800s. Her great grandmother Ellen Connors was born and raised in Belfast and came to Newfoundland as a war bride after marrying Thomas Connors in 1944 - O'Connor eventually became Connors for sounding 'too Irish'!
