This year’s HWCH Convention is taking place in October, on Thursday 2, Friday 3, and Saturday 4 at NDRC. Highly influential figures working in the global music industry will be taking part, discussing the opportunities and challenges for artists creating and performing music in 2014. (NDRC is the acronym for National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) in the Digital Hub, Crane St, Dublin 8.)

HWCH Convention 2014 will feature strategists, A&R execs, festival bookers, agents, retailers, journalists as well as appearances from Ireland’s top artists. Panels, workshops and networking speed sessions will take place across three rooms over the three days.

Highlights of the Convention include: Jump Forward a Decade - The Music Industry in 2024 with speakers Fred Bolza, Sony Music’s Vice President of Strategy and Motive Unknown’s Founder Darren Hemmings who has worked on campaigns for Alt-J, Local Natives and Temper Trap among others;

10% for what now? Afternoon Tea with the Agents features speakers Nik Halroyd, Booking Agent, Primary Talent International, Jason Edwards, Booking Agent, Coda, and Eleanor McGuinness, Agent, Pitch and Smith; and Scouts Honor with speakers Markel Casey, A&R Virgin EMI and Tom Cater of Domino. Workshop highlights include How to Write a Song, How to Make a Great Music Video (featuring Brendan Canty, Director of Hozier’s Take Me To Church video). There will also be workshops on Touring in Ireland and Globally, with contributors from The Arts Council and special guests.

Journalist and producer Jim Carroll is the main Convention Moderator. Jim has written for The Irish Times since 2000 and blogged for the newspaper at On the Record since 2007. He produces and hosts the Banter series of public talks and is a regular contributor to RTE Radio.
