John Wick: Chapter 5 has been announced with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as the titular hitman.

The latest instalment of the franchise was officially announced at the film production company Lionsgate's CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The franchise's official Instagram page posted an article from US entertainment trade website Deadline about the news and wrote: "People keep asking if we're back."

A Lionsgate executive last month said that a fifth film was in the works, though at the time she did not confirm Reeves’ involvement: "[John Wick] may be [dead]. We are all on bated breath waiting to find out."

Deadline confirms that the Point Break star will also return to lead the film, alongside director Chad Stahelski, and producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.

Only a few weeks ago, the Dangerous Liaison star dismissed the idea of John Wick returning for a direct sequel, with NME quoting him as saying: "You know, the character’s dead. I know, in Hollywood you can… I know, I know, it’s the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn’t."
