Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera TV show, Top Cat The Movie (3D) is a long overdue big screen adventure for the mastermind and his con artist alley cats.
When new police chief Strickland arrives in town Top Cat is placed under more surveillance than ever before. The new chief is a self-important, repulsive villain rather than a protector of the people and Top Cat is framed for a crime he did not commit. To make matters worse, he must do his time in dog jail!
Strickland's evil deeds don't end there: he replaces almost everyone on the force with technology, leaving Officer Dibble the only human cop in New York. Dibble teams up with his old foes from the alley in an attempt to rescue the city and defeat the villain. Will the gang pull together and break Top Cat out of jail so New York can get back to normal and they can return to their lives of loitering?
The animation here is kept very similar to the classic cartoon in its 2D form, which some CGI lovers may hate. However, this Top Cat does an ok job of recapturing the spirit of the original series, with the storyline helping to bring the characters up to date. For those of you who remember Top Cat and all the gang - Choo-Choo, Brain, Benny, Spook, Fancy-Fancy and Officer Dibble - this will be a nostalgic watch that features some old school cartoon humour. Kids will enjoy it, but older viewers may have expected more after such a long wait.
