Directed by Ben Stiller, starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Christine Taylor, Jerry Stiller and Milla Jovavich.
Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) is an icon. At least he was until the annual fashion awards choose his rival newcomer Hansel (Owen Wilson) as 'Male Model of Year'. Disillusioned with the fickleness of the fashion world and wounded by a disparaging magazine article, the intellectually challenged clotheshorse decides to find a deeper meaning to life and pledges to set up a school for 'Kids who want to learn how to read good'.
His agent, Maury (played by Stiller's real-life father Jerry) struggles to help him adjust when news of a new project reaches him. Fashion mogul Mugatu (Will Ferrell) offers Derek a comeback in his new 'Derelicte' show – but there is a sneaky catch: Mugatu plans to assassinate the Malaysian Prime Minister so that cheap child labor will still be available to his fashion empire. He and sultry sidekick Katinka (Milla Jovavich) brainwash Zoolander and plan to get him to pull off the killing, but can cynical journalist Matilda (Christine Taylor) save him from his pre-programmed fate?
This hilarious spoof pokes fun at the fashion industry with the humour and style 'Pret-A-Porter' desperately lacked. Stiller is superb as the dopey stooge and the Manchurian Candidate-style scene - where the trigger is 'Relax' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood - is excellent. There are plenty of laughs and even more cameo appearances, while Owen Wilson almost steals the show as Zoolander's rival himbo.
