Her deep connection to Oileán Acla runs through the 16-year-old Kildare native's songwriting, and the island is a place she returns to "for solitude and creative renewal, and that sense of rootedness gives her music a rare emotional weight for someone so young".

Her new single is the first taste of a debut EP produced by John Leader Productions, developed over the past year with her mentor Eimear Crehan.

Speaking about the track, she says, "Blind Eye is about how often people with addiction are judged unfairly, and the importance of showing support and acceptance through a journey of overcoming addiction."

Tell us three things about yourself...

I’m 16 years old. I’ve grown up riding horses; they have always been a huge part of my life. Me and school have never gotten along but I’m still hanging on, by a thread.

How would you describe your music?

I would say my music involves a lot of stories. When I’m writing a song it’s often after I’ve been told a story or when I’m reflecting on certain times that have touched my heart. My music is mainly singer/songwriter style, with a hint of folk in there too.

Who are your musical inspirations?

There are so many, but some of my top artists would be Tom Odell, Amble, Leonard Cohen, Adrianne Lenker, Adele, and The Beatles, I find myself listening to these people daily and take a lot of inspiration from their songs.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

It was a Tom Odell gig over in the UK. It was a really special night that I shared with my mam and sister, my passion for music really took off after this.

What was the first record you ever bought?

It was the Songs of Leonard Cohen album, one of my Grandparent’s favourites, and now one of mine too. I bought it with some pocket money that my grandad gave to me.

What's your favourite song right now?

It’s so hard to pick a favourite, but I’d have to say John’s Song by Aaron Rowe. There’s a really interesting story behind it that’s told so beautifully.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"A sad story means the story teller’s alive, so don’t you cry" - Scars by Eimear.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is a really difficult question but the one song that I always come back to is Heal by Tom Odell, I’ve been listening to this song for years and it never gets old for me.

Where can people find your music/more information?

My music can be found on all streaming platforms under Sarah Casey. And information on Instagram and TikTok @sarahcaseymusic.
