Summer at the cinema is rarely short of spectacle, and this year the line-up has plenty of familiar names.
Toy Story, Spiderman, Supergirl, Scary Movie and Cliffhanger are all returning to the big screen, while Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan are also back with new films.
From animated adventures and horror sequels to superhero stories, comedy and large-scale epics, there is something arriving almost every week from June to August.
Here are 10 new releases to look out for over the summer cinema season.
June
Scary Movie 6 - 5 June
Scary Movie 6 brings the Wayans brothers back to the franchise, marking their first creative involvement in the series in more than 15 years.
The film reunites several familiar faces from the original films, including Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris and Regina Hall, alongside new cast members.
This time, the long-running spoof series turns its attention to modern horror, reboots, remakes, legacy sequels and recent pop culture trends.
Disclosure Day - 10 June
Dublin-born Eve Hewson joins Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth and Colman Domingo in Steven Spielberg's new sci-fi film Disclosure Day.
Hewson previously worked with Spielberg on the 2015 true-story thriller Bridge of Spies.
The screenplay is by David Koepp, whose previous work with Spielberg includes Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Teeing up the film, Universal Pictures said: "If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?
"This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people.
"We are coming close to… Disclosure Day."
The film sees Spielberg return to extraterrestrial storytelling nearly 50 years after Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Toy Story 5 - 19 June
Since the first film was released in November 1995, Toy Story has become one of Pixar's best-known franchises.
The fifth film finds the toys, led by Buzz Lightyear and Woody, facing a very modern threat: Bonnie's smart tablet, Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee.
In the trailer, Buzz is seen riding on the back of a winged unicorn doll and leading an army of toys as the gang prepare to take on technology.
Woody, who left the group in the fourth film to become a "lost toy", is reunited with his friends after Jessie calls for help.
The trailer also shows Bonnie receiving her new tablet, while Buzz insists: "We’ve got it handled."
You’ve Got a Friend in Me, the classic theme song from the films by Oscar-winning singer Randy Newman, can be heard during the trailer.
Supergirl - 25 June
Milly Alcock, best known for playing young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, stars as Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, in DC's upcoming film.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously confirmed Alcock's casting, with the film forming part of the new DC slate overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran.
The film draws inspiration from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with the story expected to explore a more battle-hardened version of the character.
Supergirl has appeared on screen several times before. Helen Slater played the character in the 1984 film, Melissa Benoist led the TV series Supergirl, and Sasha Calle played the role in The Flash.
Alcock now takes on the character for a new chapter in the DC universe.
July
Minions & Monsters - 1 July
After a two-year break following Despicable Me 4 in 2024, the franchise is heading back to cinemas with Minions & Monsters, the latest entry in the hugely popular animated series.
Rather than picking up with Gru (Steve Carell) again, the film shifts focus entirely to the Minions and takes audiences back to 1920s Hollywood, where their attempt to make a monster movie quickly spirals into complete chaos when they accidentally awaken real creatures.
The film also introduces several big new names to the franchise's voice cast, including Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Christoph Waltz, Allison Janney, Trey Parker, Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr.
Pierre Coffin, who helped create the Minions and has voiced them since the beginning, returns to direct the film while once again providing the iconic Minion voices.
Banana chaos is officially back!
The Invite - 3 July
The Invite follows a married couple whose dinner plans take an unexpected turn.
Olivia Wilde's comedy centres on Joe and Angela, played by Seth Rogen and Wilde, who host Pina and Hawk, played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, for an evening that brings awkward conversation, relationship tension and uncomfortable truths to the surface.
Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, Wilde told AFP: "Anyone who's ever been in a relationship of any kind, I think, will recognise some of these themes.
"We made this as a playful piece to allow people to laugh and get in touch with their feelings, maybe a little bit."
Suddenly, cancelling dinner plans doesn't seem so rude.
The Odyssey - 17 July
Matt Damon is heading into mythic chaos as Greek hero Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's epic big-screen take on The Odyssey battling monsters, ruthless enemies, and the wrath of the gods on a journey home that could destroy him first.
The film tells the story of the Homeric epic, which follows Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, on his long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War as he encounters mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, sirens, and the nymph Calypso while attempting to reunite with his wife, Penelope.
The Odyssey also stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong'o.
It will be Nolan's first film since 2023's Oppenheimer, with the director also known for the Batman film trilogy The Dark Knight, 2017's Dunkirk, 2014's Interstellar, and Memento, released in 2000.
The story of The Odyssey has inspired a number of previous films and TV series, including Ulysses (1954), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), and The Return (2024).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day - 31 July
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
The previous three films starring Holland as Spider-Man, Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home, were directed by Jon Watts. Brand New Day marks a new chapter for the franchise, with Cretton taking over behind the camera.
The story follows Peter after the events of No Way Home, where Doctor Strange's spell made the world forget his identity.
Now living in New York without the support system he once had, Peter is continuing life as Spider-Man while trying to move forward alone.
August
Insidious: Out of the Further - 21 August
Insidious: Out of the Further continues the horror franchise's connection to The Further, the spirit realm that has been central to the series.
The film follows a mother who can enter The Further, only to accidentally bring spirits back into the real world.
As the barrier between worlds begins to break down, she and others try to stop what follows.
Amelia Eve leads the cast as Gemma, with Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also part of the new storyline.
Lin Shaye returns as Elise Rainier, one of the franchise's most familiar characters.
Cliffhanger - 28 August
The Cliffhanger reboot (2026) is a modern reimagining of the 1993 action film starring Sylvester Stallone. It's essentially a full reboot rather than a direct sequel, with a new storyline and no involvement from Stallone.
Unlike the original film, which centered on a heist and mountain rescue, this version is more of a high-stakes survival and rescue story with a modern, character-driven focus.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, it is a survival thriller set in the Italian Dolomites and focuses on a wealthy mountaineering family who run a luxury chalet in the mountains.
The story takes a dark turn when a kidnapping attempt during a trip involving a billionaire's son goes wrong, forcing the daughter, Naomi (played by Lily James), to escape into the wilderness and survive while trying to save her family.
The cast also includes Pierce Brosnan as Naomi’s father and Nell Tiger Free as her sister.
