UK singer Rosie Larada has released her debut solo single, Better Off. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

Speaking about the song, Rosie, who was the vocalist with indie outfit The Redroom for five years, says, "Better Off was the hardest song I've ever had to write, because it was about someone I loved deeply. Walking away from that friendship was something I never thought I’d have to do, but I knew I had to. Writing the song was how I processed it.

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I work with adults with learning difficulties and teach them how to write and play music.

My middle name is Rosie

My grandma is from Goa, previously a Portuguese colony of India.

How would you describe your music?

A blend of pop, soul and jazz that captures the female experience.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Joy Crookes, Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, any classic jazz singer to be honest.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Duffy.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Probably an Arctic Monkeys record, I think it was AM.

What's your favourite song right now?

Ebb Tide - Ray Conniff.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"Her steady hands may well have done the devil’s pedicure" - The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala by Arctic Monkeys.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Art Teacher - Rufus Wainwright.
