The Wicked: For Good star, who is set to come to Dublin later this month for a live performance with his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, said he thinks the Oscar-nominated Kerry woman is "absolutely great".
Speaking to Oliver Callan on RTÉ Radio 1, he said: "Oh, I love Jessie Buckley. I've loved her in all the films she’s done for a long time. Then I met her, along with Claire Foy, in the lobby of a hotel where we sometimes have dinner in Los Angeles. She was absolutely great and sweet.

Goldblum added: "During this latest awards season, I’ve run into her several times. We’re pals now and I’m crazy about her.
"She was wonderful in Hamnet and so many other films – and what a singer she is. I’d love to sing and play music with her some time," he said.
Goldblum, known for his love of jazz, also had kind words for Liberties-born singer Imelda May.
"She sang with us live and recorded with us. If you check out the first album that we did, she’s fantastic," he said.
The musician said he is "very excited" to visit Dublin on 30 May and to launch his new album Night Blooms in June.
Discussing his upcoming gig at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and the album's contributors, he said: "We’ve got guest singers on it like Scarlett Johansson, Charlie Puth, Dodie, Melody Gardot, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, and I’m very excited about it – especially about coming to Dublin. I’ve never been before, so I can’t wait."
