U2 have lent their support to the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals, a football tournament for young people which saw 30 teams from all over the world compete for the trophy in Mexico City.
The band are in the Mexican capital to shoot a video for new track Street of Dreams from their yet-to-be announced new studio album, due for release later this year.
The Street Child World Cup Finals was organised by Street Child United, a youth-led global movement working to "change how the world sees, treats, and protects street-connected young people".
The tournament was held from 6th to 14th at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco with Brazil emerging as the victors on Thursday after beating India's Rurka Kalan Youth Football squad 4-2 in the final.
U2, who have released two EPs for new songs in recent months, shot their new video near Plaza Santo Domingo in Mexico City and drew a huge crowd of fans despite inclement weather, with thunder and rain unexpectedly causing a generator to crash and a local family welcoming the band into their apartment to film on their balcony.
U2 also appeared alongside Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum at an event for the General Assembly of the Street Child World Cup in the Mexican capital.
Speaking about the event, U2 guitarist The Edge said, "We're here in Mexico City and as usual loving every minute of it.

"As supporters of Street Child United, we wanted to come along today to support this great cause, see some football and soak up the atmosphere. There’s no better town to host such a brilliant event."
In in a statement on U2's website, Larry Mullen said, "It's a little NGO with a big kick for kids with all of the talent and none of the access. Our band are proud supporters."
Street Child World Cup Finals was organised in partnership with Fútbol Más México, a non-profit organization operating in Mexico since 2017 that uses soccer as a tool for social development, resilience building, and promoting well-being among children in vulnerable communities.
