Speaking about Junk Sick, the second single from their EP, the band say, "Lyrically, this is as romantic as it gets: 'blackbirds, they sing with blood on their breath; I saw you in my sleep, last night, we done it to death.’

"It’s a bit of a romance number. Musically, this is maybe our ‘pop’ number and probably the tune we most enjoy playing live. We love when heavy bands have shifts in dynamics from song to song. The ending is pure early nu metal."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I play bass in Gout.

I support Celtic FC.

I have a dog called Phoebe.

How would you describe your music?

Gout is sludgy and noisy, but melodic at the same time. It's intense and unrelenting, and really good fun.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I take influence from a lot of different music for Gout, not always metal. Of course, acts like Thou, Portrayal of Guilt, Hell, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Sumac are always providing inspiration. But I could be listening to something completely different and it'll make me think of trying something in Gout world. Sometimes a lot of electronic music has massive amounts of low end that I'm always looking to integrate into Gout.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

T in the Park in 2005 with my parents. It no longer exists and has been kind of replaced by a festival in Glasgow called TRNSMT but there was something very special about T in the Park.

What was the first record you ever bought?

I think it was American Idiot by Green Day.

What’s your favourite song right now?

There's a song on the latest Caroline album which is a collab with Caroline Polachek called Tell Me I Never Knew That. I really like it.

Favourite lyric of all time?

I don't know that I have one, but I really like Matt Berninger of The National as a lyricist. Some of the lyrics are quite funny and have always stuck with me - like "I am secretly in love with everyone that I grew up with".

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Probably something instrumental so I wouldn't get sick of the person's voice - let's go with How To Be A Werewolf by Mogwai.
