Newly signed to Some Action Records, he has played support to George Ezra, We Are Scientists, and The Feeling, and plays this year's BST Hyde Park in London.
Speaking about Rotha, which was inspired by Mór an tSaoil (The Great Wheel of Life), , McGrath says, "Bottling the hurt from leaving a relationship and harnessing it for the better.
"Knowing you’re better off having left, but hopeful and without spite for the other person. Rotha means wheel. It keeps spinning."
Tell us three things about yourself . . .
I’m from Donegal, I have two Hungarian Vizslas and I am a Manchester United fan (for my sins).
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as dark, warm and honest.
Who are your musical inspirations?
My musical inspirations are Amy Winehouse, Alice in Chains, Clannad, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Fugees… the list goes on and on.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
My first gig was The Script in Belfast. I wasn’t really into them but they put on a brilliant show.
What was the first record you ever bought?
The first record I ever bought was Nirvana’s Nevermind. Blew my little mind.
What’s your favourite song right now?
My favourite song has got to be Let Down by Radiohead. It’s perfect.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"if you go when the snowflakes storm, when the rivers freeze and summer ends, please see she has a coat so warm, to keep her from the howling winds" - Bob Dylan’s Girl from the North Country. Such a beautiful and simple sentiment
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably What’s Happening Brother by Marvin Gaye. I adore Let Down but I think endlessly listening would ruin it for me, whereas What’s Happening always makes me smile.
Where can people find your music/more information?
