The Devil Wears Prada stars reunite for sequel premiere

The stars of The Devil Wears Prada reunited in New York on Monday for the world premiere of the film's long-awaited sequel, almost 20 years after the original became a hit.

The premiere took place on 20 April in New York City, with the film due in cinemas on 1 May.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci were all back on the red carpet for The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Streep returning as magazine editor Miranda Priestly.

Asked about stepping back into the role, Streep told Disney+ that it felt natural to return. Tucci said it was "like riding a bicycle". Their comments came as fans got their first proper look at the cast together again ahead of the sequel’s release.

The new film sees Andy Sachs, played by Hathaway, return to Runway magazine, with Miranda Priestly facing the pressures of a changing media landscape and the decline of print publishing. Emily Blunt reprises her role as Emily Charlton, now a powerful executive controlling the advertising revenue Miranda needs.

Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as Miranda’s latest husband, while new additions also include Simone Ashley and Lucy Liu.

Fashion was, unsurprisingly, a major talking point at the premiere. Streep wore red Givenchy, while Hathaway and Blunt arrived in Louis Vuitton and Schiaparelli respectively.

Streep also said in an interview that the clothes, jewellery, bags and shoes featured in the sequel are set to be auctioned in aid of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Hathaway thanked fans for keeping enthusiasm for the film alive over the past two decades, saying their support helped make the sequel possible.

Among those attending the premiere was Anna Wintour, the former Vogue editor widely seen as an inspiration for Miranda Priestly in the original film.

The first Devil Wears Prada film was released in 2006 and became one of the most enduring fashion films of its era, with Streep’s performance earning her an Oscar nomination.

The sequel arrives in cinemas on 1 May.
