Singer Ryan Phoenix has been announced as the fifth and final contestant set to compete on The Late Late Show Opening Act tonight.

The Cork singer is one of five acts who will perform live on the first-ever edition of the show, which airs on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 9.35pm.

Each act is in with a chance of winning the opportunity to open for Grammy winner Shania Twain when she plays Thomond Park in Limerick this July.

The winner will also land a spot on the annual Late Late Show Country Special, presented by Patrick Kielty, later this year.

Ryan was revealed as the final act joining the line-up during an interview on Today with David McCullagh on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning.

Paddy Treacy was announced on Monday, followed by Jesse Sludds and Caitlin Mackin on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Midnight in Vegas revealed on Thursday.

Speaking about the opportunity, Ryan said he is looking forward to performing for a wider audience.

"I'm excited to share my music with a wider audience and push myself to the next level," he said.

"The nerves are definitely there, although how can you tell the difference between nerves and excitement? I can’t. I think it’s a good thing, it means it really matters."

"Performing on The Late Late Show Country Special next season would mean everything to me," he said.

"It’s such an iconic platform, and it would be an incredible opportunity to represent Irish country music and take a big step forward in my career.

"Opening for Shania Twain in Limerick would also be an incredible experience. I’ve been waiting years for this."

The Late Late Show Opening Act airs live tonight on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 9.35pm.
