Madonna will release her new album Confessions ll on 3 July and it marks a return to the dancefloor for the veteran singer.

The new album is described as a "continuation of the iconic counterpart Confessions on a Dance Floor" and Madonna has released a first taste of album track I Feel Free with a visual teaser.

Speaking about the new album, she quoted a line from new song, One Step Away: "People think that dance music is superficial, but they've got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language."

She added: "When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto: We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies.

"These are things that we've been doing for thousands of years - they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect - with your wounds, with your fragility.

"To rave is an art. It's about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people. Sound, light, and vibration, Reshape our perceptions, Pulling us into a trance-like state. The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time."

Madonna - known for chart-topping hits including Like A Prayer and Vogue - updated her Instagram account on Tuesday and changed her bio to read "Time goes by so slowly…", a lyric from Hung Up, the lead single from her 2005 album Confession on the Dance Floor.

She first hinted to her new album in December 2024 with a video of herself in the studio with Confessions producer, Stuart Price.

Last year, she confirmed that she had returned to her original label, Warner Records, who released all of her studio albums from 1983’s self-titled debut to 2008’s Hard Candy.

Madonna's last album, Madame X, was released in 2019. She has also released two remix compilations - Finally Enough Love and Veronica Electronica.
