Wild Youth's David Whelan lands lead in Oklahoma! at BGET this summer

Wild Youth star David James Whelan is set to take on a lead role in the musical Oklahoma! at Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this summer.

The singer, who represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 with his band and was a finalist on RTÉ's Dancing with the Stars in 2024, will star as Curly McLain in the production, which runs from 19 June to 5 July 2026.

The production will also feature Cork-born musical theatre star Molly Lynch as Laurey Williams and Fair City actor Enda Oates as Andrew Carnes.

Joining the trio are Oliver Flitcroft as Jud Fry, Rachel Gaughan as Ado Annie Carnes, Sacha Koplewsky as Will Parker, and Molly Logan as Aunt Eller Murphy.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration debuted at the St. James Theatre in 1943 and became the first true phenomenon of modern Broadway.

Oklahoma! has won numerous awards, from a special Pulitzer Prize to the 2019 Tony Award for its innovative Broadway revival. The 1955 film version is in the American National Film Registry.
