RTÉ Radio 1 has launched a new on-air audio identity across the station, with updated signature tunes, news themes and continuity imaging introduced from today.
The refresh includes new programme themes across the schedule, along with updated sound design for news bulletins, weather, sport, traffic and travel.
RTÉ said key musical elements were performed and recorded by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
The broadcaster said the move is part of a wider refresh at Radio 1 following the introduction of its new schedule late last year. It is the first time the station has introduced a fully unified audio identity across its output.
RTÉ said the project was informed by audience research carried out with IPSOS B&A among listeners and non-listeners. Audio branding agency WiseBuddah was appointed following a public procurement process to develop the new sound.
The new Radio 1 sound also introduces a single station voice, with continuity announcer Jan Ní Fhanagáin taking on that role. Commercial voice artist Keith Singleton will voice Radio 1 sponsorship stings.
Patricia Monahan, Director of Audio at RTÉ, said the new identity reflects changing audience expectations and forms part of the broadcaster's wider audio strategy.
Tara Campbell, Head of RTÉ Radio 1, said the new sound is intended to complement the station’s refreshed schedule and presenter line-up.
Listeners will hear the new audio identity across RTÉ Radio 1 from today.
