Britney Spears has entered a treatment facility just over a month after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

A representative for the 44-year-old singer said that she had voluntarily checked herself in.

California Highway Patrol officers received a report on 5 March that a BMW was being driven fast and erratically on US 101 in Ventura County, near the Los Angeles County line, according to authorities.

Spears, who lives in the area, took a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.

She was taken to a county jail and released several hours later.

Investigators turned the case over to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office on 23 March. Prosecutors are expected to decide whether to bring charges before a scheduled court date on 4 May.

At the time of her arrest, a representative for Spears described her actions as "completely inexcusable" and said they hoped it would mark "the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life".

Spears has largely stepped back from music in recent years. She has not toured in nearly eight years and has not released an album in almost a decade.

In 2021, she regained control of her personal and financial affairs when a court-ordered conservatorship was dissolved after nearly 14 years. Two years later, she released her bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me.
