"Dublin psychedelic punkers" Creepy Future have just released their debut album, Brace Yourself, on their own Swizz Records and Distro-Y Records. They play Dublin's Thomas House on Friday, 17 April. We ask the band's Conzo (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Moose (bass and drones), and Derek (drums and backing vocals) the BIG questions . . .
Tell us three things about yourselves . . .
Conzo: Full moons give me the jitters. I was born two days after the release of Fun House by The Stooges. I once got electrocuted on stage during a gig.
Derek: I make a mean pineapple salsa. I play the drums left-handed (which is a massive pain in the face for everyone). I prefer the rock as opposed to the roll.
Moose: I'm not actually a Moose. I play the bass. I love kebabs.
How would you describe your music?
Conzo: Psychedelic punk.
Derek: A good time had by all.
Moose: Catchy weirdo punk.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Conzo: Just going with one letter of the alphabet: The Sonics, The Saints, Suicide, Swell Maps.
Derek: Everyone in the book Our Band Could Be Your Life.
Moose: Super Furry Animals, Hawkwind, and SLF.
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Conzo: Echo and the Bunnymen in the SFX.
Derek: The Monkees on a comeback tour, playing after a Portland Beavers Minor League Baseball Game.
Moose: Sunstroke '94.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Conzo: Non-Stop Western Themes LP.
Derek: Billy Joel - Glass Houses.
Moose: First tape was Serious Fun by The Firm (Star Trekkin...).
What's your favourite song right now?
Conzo: Wonderin' by Little Richard.
Derek: Lucky Blade by Jacuzzi Boys. Takes me back to a carefree pre-pandemic garage punk festival in Madrid. Can nearly smell the warm beer and lack of responsibilities every time I hear it.
Moose: Destruction Unit - The World on Drugs.
