Dermot Kennedy surprises fans at intimate Wicklow pop-up gig

Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy thrilled fans with a surprise gig in Co Wicklow to celebrate his new album, The Weight of the Woods.

The special listening event took place at Beyond the Trees Avondale on Saturday evening and featured an exclusive first listen to the full album, followed by a surprise live performance from Kennedy on the 38-metre high Viewing Tower.

During the set, Kennedy performed tracks from his upcoming album, including the singles Funeral, Refuge and latest release Honest, accompanied by a ten-piece choir from Maynooth University.

The Weight of the Woods is Kennedy's third studio album and was written and recorded between Ireland and Nashville with producer Gabe Simon. It is set for release in Ireland on 3 April, 2026.

Kennedy has previously headlined venues including London’s The O2 and New York’s Madison Square Garden.

In May and June, he will embark on his biggest European tour to date, followed by six UK arena dates, including a return to The O2 in London on 5 June.

He then returns to Ireland for two headline shows at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on 11 and 12 July.
