Irish psych/Kraut rock band Bad Mothers Union have released their new single, God's Intercom, with album, Sore Losers, to follow on 19 March. We asked the band's drummer James O’Neill the BIG questions . . .

Established in Kilkenny by front man Conor Kavanagh, they cite Sonic Youth, The Osees, Mogwai and Primal Scream as influences and the current line-up is Conor (vocals/guitar), Shay English (bass), James O’Neill (drums/percussion), Tim Flood (bass), Céin O’Dowd (guitar bouzouki) and Ethan Corcoran (synth/bass/vocals).

The sweet spot between Yo La Tengo and Sunn O))).

Jimmy Chamberlin of The Smashing Pumpkins and Gary Young of Pavement (RIP).
What was the first gig you ever went to?
Green Day and Rancid, Kilmainham, 2017.
What was the first record you ever bought?
The Bends by Radiohead.
What’s your favourite song right now?
Revisiting a lot of Eels’ work lately and have been loving P.S. You Rock My World.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Has to be the opening line to Random Rules by Silver Jews (RIP) - "In 1984 I was hospitalised for approaching perfection".
