Behind the music - AIDXN G

AIDXN G
AIDXN G: "I'm from Tallaght, Dublin. I'm 26 years old and I've only got nine toenails "

Irish pop star AIDXN G has released his new single, Dirty Laundry. We asked him the big questions . . .

The track tells the story of "a once-inseparable friendship that ended without explanation".

Speaking about the song, AIDXN G says "It's really quite sad, this song shouldn't even really be written, but in hindsight, it comes from a good place and allows me to move forward without a care in the world."

The release follows his debut single, Freakquency, and a gig at The George in Dublin.

"After the success of Freakquency, it wasn't hard to know which explosion to dive into - the world of AIDXN G, was about to come next.

"I really wanted to capture the use of my own spoken accent , kinda like a way of reclaiming my voice , of what always was mine to begin with."

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I’m from Tallaght, Dublin. I’m 26 years old and I’ve only got nine toenails :( (if you can’t use the last one then we can say I’ve done pantomimes across Dublin for the last 10 years).

How would you describe your music?

It’s music that comes from the heart! As much as it makes you want to get up and dance and feel free and let go, really the lyricism in my music is me releasing and letting go of any trauma that’s gotten me down and prohibited to take the leap and delve right into what I love and know best. Music is therapy.

Who are your musical inspirations?

From the age of 12 I fell heavily in love with X-Factor winners Little Mix. Those four women were my guiding lights growing up. Their music made me feel like their friend and that’s what u intend to do with my own.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Funny enough, it was The X-Factor live tours! My aunty would take me to them almost every year. I’ve got this vivid memory from one where I remember being seated and just staring around the 3Arena in awe at how many people were in the crowd and almost jealous of the artist on stage. I remember just staring at the stage and saying "I’m gonna do that, someday that will be and you’re gonna know my name". So yeah - fingers crossed that happens.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Well, Santy would always ensure to bring me mostly albums at Christmas when I was younger. I’d always get a NOW THAT’s WHAT I CALL album of that year. A lot of musicals like Disney Originals like High School Musical and Camp Rock. Growing up, that sort of music made me feel less of an outcast. (Also, owning every single Little Mix album there ever was).

What’s your favourite song right now?

This is kinda sad as usually I’d be humming Ireland’s entry to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but I am currently supporting the boycott and for the foreseeable! If I’m honest, I’ve been humming lots of my friends songs in the industry - Rebecca Laine has a song called Sweet Tooth, which is addictive and also Megan Burke has some diva riffs going off in her song When Will You Hate Me.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Okay, this is really difficult so I’m gonna make it about me (lol). My favourite lyric is from an unreleased song of mine. It’s a song called Missing Piece, one of the saddest songs in my discography. "I’m trying to leave, but you beg me stay, got no words so I push you away, you ask me why, I say I’m okay, I’m telling you lies you see through anyway, I think about you in everything that I do, don’t wanna be a missing piece of you".
