Katherine Hartley Short, the daughter of actor and comedian Martin Short, has died at the age of 42.
Katherine Short was a social worker, US media reported, and the eldest of three children her father adopted with actress and singer Nancy Dolman.
Her family confirmed the news in a statement, saying they were "devastated by this loss" and asking for privacy, adding that Katherine "was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world".
Alongside her brothers, Oliver and Henry, Katherine largely stayed out of the public spotlight, though she was occasionally seen with her father at events.
Short, who is known for films including The Three Amigos, Father of the Bride and Innerspace, has since postponed a string of live shows with his longtime comedy partner Steve Martin.
The Miller High Life Theatre in Milwaukee said the pair's show on Friday, 27 February, had been postponed due to "unforeseen circumstances", while Hennepin Arts also confirmed their Minneapolis show on Saturday, 28 February, has been postponed.
Short is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series at this weekend’s Actor Awards for his role as Oliver Putnam in Only Murders in the Building.
