YouTube star Logan Paul has sold a Pokémon card for a record-breaking €13.9 million.
The 30-year-old American influencer sold his PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator card during a livestreamed auction, with the sale totalling at $16,492,000 (€13,937,872).
The sale, by online auction house Goldin, broke the record for the most expensive trading card sold at auction as well as for being the most expensive Pokémon card sold at auction.
The card was purchased by venture capitalist AJ Scaramucci, who is also the son of the former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.
Paul had purchased the card in 2021 for $5.2 million (€4.3 million), breaking the record at the time for the most expensive Pokémon trading card sold at a private sale.
Prior to the sale, Paul bid farewell to the card, which he described as the "greatest collectable in the world" in a post on his Instagram page.
The livestreamed event was observed by Guinness World Records adjudicator Sarah Casson, who declared the record-breaking sale.
She said: "On behalf of Guinness World Records, I can now confirm you have achieved a new record title not only for the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold at auction, but also the overall record for the most expensive trading card ever sold at auction."
The card features a depiction of Pikachu, the golden character most readily associated with Pokémon.
