Period drama Train Dreams has won Best Feature at the Film Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles, adding to its momentum ahead of the Oscars next month.
The 41st annual ceremony took place on Sunday at the Hollywood Palladium, with comedian and actor Ego Nwodim hosting.
Clint Bentley's Train Dreams, adapted from Denis Johnson’s novella and starring Joel Edgerton, also picked up Best Director and Best Cinematography.
Rose Byrne won the Spirit Award for Best Lead Performance for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
The Spirit Awards use gender-neutral acting categories.
In other film prizes, Brazil’s The Secret Agent won Best International Film, while The Perfect Neighbor took Best Documentary and Sorry, Baby won Best Screenplay.
Film Independent limits eligibility for feature films to productions with budgets under $30 million (after tax incentives).
