Film director Steven Spielberg has achieved EGOT status after winning a Grammy Award at the 2026 ceremony in Los Angeles.
The 79-year-old won Best Music Film as a producer of Music by John Williams, a documentary celebrating the composer whose work has shaped some of cinema's best-known scores.
In a statement after the win, Spielberg thanked Grammy voters and said the recognition for Music by John Williams "means the world" to him.
The award completes Spielberg’s set of major US entertainment honours, having previously won Emmys, Oscars and a Tony. He received the Tony as a producer of the musical A Strange Loop.
Spielberg now joins a small group of performers and creators to have achieved EGOT status, including Rita Moreno, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg and Audrey Hepburn, as well as more recent winners such as John Legend, Viola Davis, Jennifer Hudson and Elton John.
Directed by Laurent Bouzereau, Music by John Williams charts the composer’s career across more than seven decades and his long-running collaborations, including with Spielberg, whose films have featured Williams scores from the 1970s onwards.
Spielberg is best known for films including Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, as well as the Indiana Jones series, and has also worked as a producer across film and television.
