Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I’m alive

Although I’m born on Christmas Day, I accept that I am not the second coming.

The best piece of advice I ever received was to never follow the crowd. And I intend to live by that for the duration of my life. Not in a wacky sense but I’ll just do what makes me happy.

How would you describe your music?

It’s all about feeling. I’ve got happy songs, angry songs, and sad songs and each song ignites a particular feeling in me and those that connect with it.

Who are your musical inspirations?

The Beatles, I have a tattoo of them in my forearm. To me, they are the greatest. Bob Dylan, in my opinion he’s the greatest lyricist ever. Oasis, the feeling of euphoria their music has given me is incredible, I saw them in Croke Park last year and although the days of getting married and having kids may come. It was the best day ever. Nirvana, I love the rage in their music and the beautiful sadness that Kurt Cobain managed to transcend through his voice and songs. Bob Marley, what a guy, a free spirit of the highest order. I could go on all day about musicians, there’s loads I’m inspired by!

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Shane Ward after he won the X Factor, I think Jedward was my second concert. Not the strongest of starts but I enjoyed them at the time.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Revolver by the Beatles and Definitely Maybe by Oasis in terms of actual records. Mickey Joe Harte’s We’ve Got The World was the first CD I bought though; I think Pat Shortt’s Jumbo Breakfast Roll was second.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Let Down by Radiohead, I’ve been mad for that song for about a year now.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"To dance beneath the diamond sky, with one hand waving free" - Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Some Might Say by Oasis, I remember the first time I heard it, it just gave me that sense that everything will be alright and it still does.
