Sean 'Diddy' Combs has written to Donald Trump seeking a presidential pardon, but the US president has said he is not considering clemency for the hip-hop star.
Trump made the comments in an interview with The New York Times published on Thursday. He said the request came in a letter, but indicated he was not inclined to grant it.
Combs is serving a 50-month prison sentence after being convicted in July of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the most serious charges he faced, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
A White House spokesperson confirmed Trump’s comments, while Combs’ representatives declined to comment, according to US reports.
Combs’ legal team has been pursuing an appeal, and last month asked a federal appeals court in New York to order his immediate release from prison.
In the same interview, Trump also said he was not considering pardons for several other high-profile figures, including Nicolás Maduro, former senator Robert Menendez and Sam Bankman-Fried.
