Helen Mirren has been presented with the Golden Globes' Cecil B. DeMille Award, with Harrison Ford praising the actor’s "undeniable screen presence" as she was honoured for her career at the Golden Eve celebration in Beverly Hills.

Golden Eve is a separate event recognising the recipients of the DeMille and Carol Burnett awards.

Ford, who currently co-stars with Mirren in 1923, referenced their earlier collaboration on The Mosquito Coast, before telling the audience she brings "a powerful commitment to narrative and character" to every scene.

Mirren, 80, won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen and has previously won three Golden Globes. In her acceptance remarks, she described the honour less as a career summation and more as recognition of "a life lived", saying she hoped it would feel like "an ongoing reflection" rather than "a eulogy".

The evening also saw Sarah Jessica Parker receive the Carol Burnett Award, which the Golden Globes describe as recognising "outstanding contributions to television on or off screen". Parker was presented with the award by her husband, Matthew Broderick, who recalled her initial uncertainty about taking on Sex and the City, a role that went on to earn her six Golden Globes and two Emmys.

Parker’s tribute segment included a toast led by Colman Domingo and an emotional address from her Sex and the City co-star Kristin Davis, with members of the cast of And Just Like That… also among those in attendance.

Now 60, Parker has been acting for more than 50 years. She spoke about early inspiration drawn from theatre, including seeing her mother perform in a production of Once Upon a Mattress, a show linked to Burnett’s own career, and said it had been "a privilege and a dream" to call herself an actor.

The main Golden Globes ceremony takes place on Sunday, 11 January, hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser.
