Tell us three things about yourself . . .

We are Chief Keegan and we're an Instrumental funk band from Dublin. We formed in 2018 and have released one album and three EPs so far and we're in the process of mixing our second album.

How would you describe your music?

A combination of deep grooves, tight and fun arrangements and driving, improvised jams. We like to call it feelgood music.

Who are your musical inspirations?

We are heavily inspired by bands like The Meters, Stuff and The Headhunters as well as more modern bands like Vulfpeck, Lettuce and Cory Wong.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

Fatboy Slim in The Point when I was 14 I think. Wild!

What was the first record you ever bought?

I'm actually not sure but I think it was In The Right Place by Dr. John. What an album!

What’s your favourite song right now?

The two songs I've been digging a lot lately are Them Changes by Buddy Miles and Losing You by Randy Newman. Very different vibes but great songs!

Favourite lyric of all time?

I write mainly instrumental music so I'm not a huge lyric guy to be honest but I was listening to People Say by The Meters again recently and the lyrics seem more relevant than ever. Also pretty much anything by Randy Newman.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Jaysus, that's a hard question! I'll go with Right Place Wrong Time by Dr. John.
